Book Club

I recently joined a book reading club...I'm very excited, as it will give me motivation and camaraderie... :)
The first book we're reading is Neverwhere by Neil Gaiman, you can find a link to that book here:

Check it out! I should be receiving my copy within the next week, so...happy reading!

Wow

Ok, I have over-customized my blog to the point where my head is actually swimming...I think I need to walk away from it for awhile...
Irregardless, it's been fun getting it all nice and neat. :D
Today is going slow, even thought I've been insanely busy. I guess it's a good thing, or I wouldn't have gotten so much done... :)
Anyways, enough of my rambling...

Got Melanocortin 1?

So, I was chatting on gmail, when a random ad caught my eye...usually I ignore them because they pick up text from my emails and try and sell me products based on what I am discussing...but today, the ad was too good to be true...a tee-shirt website that caters to redheads!

http://www.realmofredheads.com/store/

Realm of Redheads has witty tee shirts for the genetic mutants that are redheads (I am a proud natural redhead myself, so I was intrigued).

One of the shirts in particular, the Got Melanocortin 1 shirt, made me laugh. For years I've explained that redheads are a genetic anomaly, but most people stare at me blankly...but now I can wear a tee shirt and save my precious breath! *grin*
Here is the description included with the tee shirt:

"Only an estimated 4 percent of the population is born with red hair (only 2% in the U.S.), due to the recessive nature of the gene that produces it. That gene, the melanocortin 1 receptor, was discovered on the 16th of the 23 human chromosome pairs in 1995 by Jonathan Rees, a professor at the University of Edinburgh in Scotland."

WTF?

Had to share what I found while browsing amazon.com this morning...

Have a Hairless Holiday
Give the gift of a smooth back with the Mangroomer and for a limited time get a free Norelco G270 trimmer (while supplies last).

A Hairless Holiday?
The Gift of a Smooth Back?
Not to mention... there's a product called the "MANGROOMER"?

Disturbing beyond all natual reason.

Are people really giving out gifts of desperation like this?
*horrified*

Ok, fine

So I decided to find a place where I could blog and be generally bitchy while I'm at work, since most people don't want to hear about it anyways...
I'm incredibly excited about this particular holiday season, for reasons I can't disclose at this time, but will definitely be blogging about later.
And even though it is horribly materialistic of me, I have this unnatural obsession with what I'm getting for Christmas...and not in that little kid way where I shake the packages, hoping to discern the subtle sound difference between a Barbie doll and new underwear. I just like presents...I like giving and I like receiving...it brings me more joy than I can express in words...but apparently I'm trying...
Things are just so hectic lately that I needed to start writing somewhere...
I have this little notebook for just such occasions, but I can only write so much in there...
Typing is easier anyways... :)
I'm even leaving early today so that I can take care of things on the home front (more on that later, I'm sure), but this means I come in on Saturday, which is totally my call, but still sucks...
One of these days, our society will go back to the barter system, and we can leave this "progress" called "money" behind.
